Click the "Hear Word" button to hear a random Arabic word. Spell the word you hear by dragging its letters to the blue box. Make sure each letter is in the correct shape based on its position in the word! Click on a letter to change between all of its available shapes.
For a new student, learning the Arabic alphabet and how to correctly write and spell in the language can at first seem overwhelming. Not only are the sounds of the letters new and unfamiliar for many, but letters can have up to four different shapes based on their position in a word: initial, medial, final, or isloated.
The purpose of this simple app is to help new Arabic students better learn the letters and sounds of the Arabic alphabet, by giving them a chance to practice interactively spelling words they hear while visualizing how the letters connect to one another in real time.
I hope this app will offer my students and my fellow Arabic teachers alike a new way to make learning Arabic fun!
